Nitric Oxide by Zeng Fan Pu(2P332)

Nitric Oxide

Once upon a time a harmless nitrogen (N2) was wandering around and got sucked into a car. He met a lonely oxygen (O2) and both of them made friends. When they cleared through the air filter and went into the engine, a powerful explosion of gasoline occurred. With high temperature and pressure, the nitrogen and oxygen particles combined, and became nitric oxide (NO).
Expression: Nitrogen + Oxygen => Nitric Oxide

Nitic oxide is harmful as it can cause respiratory problems(such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis), heart disease, lung tissue damage, and premature death. It also causes acid rain, contributes to global warming as it is a greenhouse gas, create hazes, causes upset in chemical balance to aquatic wildlife, leads to depletion of oxygen in water bodies, create acidic lakes and may contribute to biological mutations. It is the only primary air pollutant that has not decreased since the Clean Air Act in 1970, and in fact has increased by 10%.
