How has/will human activities in the Amazon regions affect the Allomerus decemarticulatus ants?
The amazon forest has been used for industries like logging and deforestation. By doing so, the ants would be unable to trap other insects for food as they need the fibre and the tiny hairs from the plant to construct the trap to trap insects. Also, their habitat would also be destroyed. Without plants to construct traps for food, these ants would have no food to eat, and would fall prey easily to other predators.
Also, with the effects of global warming and deforestation, insects would tend to go under the plants for more shade. This makes it easier for the ants to trap insects as they do not have to wait so long for insects to come into their trap.
From the extract, identify the different symbiotic relationships and cite the organisms involved. Clue: There are at least 3 types of relationship.
Commensalism: The ants cut hairs from the stem of the plant they inhabit to make the trap.
Predatory: The Allomerus decemarticulatus ants kill and eat the insects trapped by the trap made by the ants.
Parasitism: The ants farm the fungus for protein from the fungus and the plant.
For each type of relationship you have identified in (a), name another example of a pair of organisms depicting that relationship in nature
Commensalism: Remora and Shark
Predatory: Cheetah and Thompson Gazzele
Parasitism: Tree-Ear Fungus and Tree.
